Welcome to our classroom space!

welcome to the new school year!

welcome to the new school year!

Hello MLK Scholars + Families,

My name is Ms. Turner, and I am a 6th Grade Ancient History and AVID teacher. I have loved being apart of this Tiger family over the past four years and I look forward to having you join us. I received my undergraduate degree in Art History from San Francisco State University and my teaching credential from St. Marys College of California. I aim to create a safe and fun classroom environment, where we can learn and grow together in community. Find out more information about my specific classes below.

6th Grade Ancient History:
Throughout this course, we will investigate the cultures, artifacts, and geography of Ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, Kush, Israel, India, China, Greece, and Rome. My hope is that in this class you will gain a better understanding that history is not just about what happened in the past; instead, history is about the lessons these stories tell. Through exploring these stories, or histories, we can build and reimagine a more humanizing future.
History is made minute by minute.
What Legacy will you leave?

6th Grade AVID:
The AVID Elective course is an introduction to the AVID philosophy and the AVID WICOR skills needed to use to succeed as a lifelong learner. Scholars will develop awareness of the values accompanying academic goals and success. The course will focus on building self-confidence and communication skills in working with peers and adults. Scholars will be exposed to reading strategies that will assist in vocabulary building and understanding a variety of texts, and will also focus on prewriting techniques, summary writing and structural components of note-taking. Scholars will increase college and career awareness through guest speaker presentations, field trip opportunities and research.

I look forward to meeting you and working with you throughout the year.

All my best,
Ms. Turner
