Welcome to our new academic year at Martin Luther King Jr. Junior High School.  We are excited and eager to have your child in our classes.  In Language Arts your child will be engaged in and practicing three essential skills:  reading, writing, and speaking.  It is our mission to prepare our scholars for college and careers in the 21st century by teaching them to read and think critically, write to express thoughts and to capture learning, and to have academic conversations.

BACK TO SCHOOL GOALS
Reading is a fundamental skill for success in school and in life. We understand that when scholars find books they like, they will read more often.  It is our goal that all scholars will have a book of choice to engage in daily independent reading at their individual reading levels.

The school planner is a tool for success, and it is our goal that all scholars will have a planner to record all of their assignments — including daily homework, study plans, and due dates for long-term projects and papers.
