Welcome to a New Academic Year at Martin Luther King Jr. Junior High School

Dear Families,
We are excited and eager to welcome your child into our Language Arts classes this year. In Language Arts, scholars will be practicing and strengthening three essential skills: reading, writing, and speaking. Our mission is to prepare all scholars for success in college, career, and life in the 21st century. We will do this by teaching them to:

  • Read and think critically
  • Write to express ideas and demonstrate learning
  • Engage in academic conversations with confidence

Back-to-School Goals

Reading
Reading is a foundation for success in school and beyond. We know that when scholars find books they enjoy, they are motivated to read more often. Our goal is for every scholar to have a book of choice for daily independent reading at their individual reading level.

Planners
The school planner is an important tool for building strong study habits. It is our expectation that all scholars will use their planner daily to record assignments, homework, study plans, and due dates for long-term projects and essays. Consistent use of the planner helps scholars stay organized and prepared.
We are looking forward to an exciting year of growth, learning, and achievement. Thank you for your partnership in supporting your child’s success.
